The Top 10 Music Videos of 2016

Here, without further ado, are my Top 10 music videos of 2016. Just kidding! Because I am a ridiculous person who gets carried away easily, I made a Top 40 list of my favorite music videos of the year, a collection of clips that range from grim environmental commentary to loopy Bulgarian Alice in Wonderland fantasy. Music videos are the best because they can reflect the world as it is or maybe as you’d like it to be in your wildest fantasies. Some of these videos were clearly very expensive and some of them look like they cost $3.99. Some of them are about politics and some of them are just very pretty. Some have dancing and some are animated. There’s a shortage of animated dancing but what can you do. Serena Williams and Naomi Campbell make guest appearances. There are a great many LGBT themes although I don’t know whether that’s personal preference or a more general trend. If these videos were movies many of them would be R-rated and at least one or two are in NC-17 territory. Avoid Kvelertak (Norwegian metal) and Ichon (French rap) if you don’t like violence. Avoid DJ Hell (German techno) and Alexandre Chatelard (French techno) if you don’t like sex.
