New this year: A new, more vertical format means that the guide’s more mobile friendly than previously, but it’s also sized for those of you who want to print it and leave it in your car or wherever. The beach guide has been updated for 2019, too.
Not new this year: All dates/times/ticket prices are accurate as of Thursday, May 23, but it’s a summer guide and a lot of these things are weather dependent. As always, posted ticket prices are for adults on the day of the event. Children, seniors, early birds, groups, and so forth might get cheaper tickets but that’s all too much information for this sort of guide. If you’re wondering which beaches have which amenities—restrooms, picnic tables, fishing areas—visit shoreline-ri.org.
The guide cover features Newport Jazz Festival headliner Kamasi Washington, who is 1) great and 2) smart enough to have awesome publicity photos that work horizontally AND vertically. I can’t even tell you how rare that is.
The header image here is an insane rendering of Westerly’s Wilcox Park “at night” circa 1930-45; it’s from the Boston Public Library‘s zany collection of Rhode Island postcards.
