Contemporary Theatre Company’s annual Springboard Season affords artists the opportunity to mount one-night-only productions. This year’s offerings range from a pun contest to a clown show to “Who’s Calling?”, an ambitious mounting of three one-act operas by Newport-based soprano Rachel Hanauer. Samuel Barber’s brief “A Hand of Bridge” features two unhappy couples around a card table; Gian Carlo Menotti’s “The Telephone” is about an oblivious girlfriend who doesn’t notice the boyfriend who’s trying to propose to her; Francis Poulenc’s “The Human Voice” is the most ambitious of the three, a forty-minute drama featuring a lone soprano pleading with an ex over the phone.
