Comedy Central first imported substance-happy Patsy Stone and Edina Monsoon in 1994, and 22 years later the boozy duo finally make it to the big screen for a funny diversion around Cannes. The plot’s fairly simple and the characters are all gross cartoons, so you don’t need any familiarity with the show to understand what’s happening. (I hadn’t seen an episode in two decades, probably, so forgot all about some of the minor characters.) The premise is appropriately silly: the hard-partying pair flee to Cannes with Edina’s granddaughter after a mishap in which they may have killed supermodel Kate Moss. The jokes are largely the same as they were in the nineties, Edina’s daughter Saffy gets a romantic subplot that’s only half concepted, and the film relies heavily on cameos that will probably be lost on American audiences. Overall I really enjoyed myself.
