Alexander Provan

This summer at the New Museum, Alexander Provan performed “Reality Formatting,” using sound and narration to chronicle a middle-aged white male audiophile undergoing testing to determine what sound should really sound like. Provan also recently completed a two-year fellowship at The New School, which he dedicated to the study of standards. I know of him primarily as founding editor of the sometimes-print-but-mostly-online journal Triple Canopy, and also as a contrbuting editor to the great magazine Bidoun. It seemed surprising that RISD’s sculpture department would bring him to town for a lecture, but Provan’s too conceptually wily to easily pin down.
