The biopic might be the worst film genre. Complicated Young Person overcomes the odds to become famous and then there are setbacks and more odds are overcome and then probably they die at the end. All told in painstaking detail for two and a half hours (minimum) in the most earnest manner possible, with a lot of makeup and prosthetics and tearful speeches! No thanks. Back in 2001 Will Smith seemed like a logical choice to play Muhammad Ali, and now that Mr. Ali has left this earth the film’s being screened again in select cinemas for a week.
