The RISD Museum has an interesting new exhibit focused on the nineteenth century etching revival. The show features some big names (Degas, Manet, Cassatt) as well as some relatively obscure artists. The show plays up the city’s bohemian squalor – a corpse freshly extracted from the River Seine, the seductive blankness of Besnard’s two morphine addicts, and Munch’s scandalous (for its time) depiction of a passed out drunk lady.
