Back in 1944, Angela Lansbury stole the show as the teenaged chambermaid in Gaslight, upstaging both Ingrid Bergman and Joseph Cotton in a thriller about a woman driven to madness. Set in late Victorian England, the film was based on Patrick Hamilton’s 1938 play Gas Light (which for some reason was retitled Angel Street for American audiences.) It’s being revived by the Theater Company of Rhode Island, a thirty-year old community theater company which, to be honest, I’m pretty sure I’ve never heard of before. They’re based in Chepachet, in the same building as the Purple Cat winery.
