Brooklyn painter Anna Ortiz made up the word “Epsalante,” the title of her current exhibition at St. George’s School. (“Did you mean Ypsilanti?” No, Google.) “It’s a name whose origin has no real meaning except what we place on it,” Ortiz says. Fair enough. The paintings themselves are devoid of people but have an anthropological air, with stone constructions in lush environments. Dyson Sphere 6 looks like a pile of broken wood furniture plopped next to a mountain, for instance, though the title actually refers to an energy containing alien sphere. The show runs through this weekend.
