Anna Pitoniak was born in British Columbia and went to Yale. The Futures, her debut novel, is about a hockey player from British Columbia who went to Yale. He graduates with a serious girlfriend and a job at a big hedge fund circa the 2008 crash. The book’s out this week, and early reviews of the sad romantic drama have been positive: “A bittersweet coming-of-age drama,” says Kirkus. “Eschews cliché for nuanced characterization and sharply observed detail,” says Publishers Weekly. Pitoniak, an editor at Random House, discusses her debut novel with Westerly Sun arts editor Nancy Burns-Fusaro.
