I go to the movies roughly once a week, so right before Christmas I fell for that Showcase Subscribe thing that scores you 3 movie tickets a month for $16.95. Even if I only saw two movies it’s still a deal, right? You just have to commit to three months.* Well, the setup isn’t particularly user-friendly and I downloaded the wrong app, so on my first visit (Vice) I ended up just buying a ticket. I went home, figured it out, and a week later I used it to see dumb Bohemian Rhapsody. That was the end of Month One. The second month I saw a bunch of movies; it just so happened that none of them were at the Showcase. Now it’s the end of Month Three, and so far I’ve only seen one movie (Everybody Knows). I’ve got 48 hours to see two more and I’m determined to do it— I’m thinking the moon landing documentary Apollo 11 and Gaspar Noe’s bad trippy dance-horror film Climax, both of which are screening at Providence Place this week.** (I just saw the original Suspiria at Brown last night, so I might need a Neil Armstrong palate cleanser before going into another trippy dance-horror film.)
*In a rare moment of clarity, I actually remembered to cancel the subscription before it renewed again.
**Apollo 11 is screening this week at Providence Place, Cinemaworld Lincoln, Jane Pickens Theater, and Mystic Luxury Cinemas.
