Earlier this year critics went nuts for Midnight Special, a sad alien movie that I didn’t like very much, and they’re very much into this one, too. (It currently has a 100% approval rating on critic aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.) Regular readers of Law And Order Party will notice that I’m a big fan of slow-moving movies where not much happens, so of course my ears perked up when I read about “the most low-key alien invasion drama you’ll ever see.” Denis Villeneuve’s film focuses less on the tentacled creatures and more on the folks whose lives are disrupted by the extraterrestrial invasion. Mysterious pods are hovering all over the world, and a spaceship of some kind is looming over Montana. Amy Adams is a linguist (a linguist!) who can communicate with the creatures, maybe, and she’s accompanied on her journey by a Los Alamos physicist played by Jeremy Renner.
