George Miller is best known for the Mad Max series, but the Australian director also produced and co-wrote Babe, a G-rated sleeper hit from 1995 about benevolent Farmer Hoggett (James Cromwell) and a young pig raised by sheepdogs. Cromwell was so taken with the pigs on set that he quickly became a PETA advocate and environmental activist; his arrest record is quite lengthy. Anyway, Providence Children’s Film Festival presents a 25th anniversary screening of the film, part of an active week of programs coinciding with Presidents’ Day and school vacation week. Other Monday highlights include a Danish hacking adventure and documentary about a Singaporean man called Mr. Toilet. See the full schedule here.
*In 1998 Miller would direct Babe 2: Pig in the City, which honestly belongs with Terminator 2 and the second Godfather movie on any list of all-time great sequels.
