Beatriz Williams, celebrated author of historical beach reads, makes an appearance in Watch Hill as part of the Ocean House’s Summer Author Series. Her latest is The Golden Hour, which takes place in the Bahamas during World War II. At the time the islands were run by the Duke of Windsor, the former English monarch who gave up the throne because he was in love with an American socialite. (You probably skipped the movie Madonna directed about the scandal.) Lots of international intrigue and espionage in this one, though Williams is also familiar with Westerly: her 2013 novel A Hundred Summers was set in a fictionalized version of Watch Hill during the hurricane of 1938.
The event is free but advance reservations are encouraged.
