As I type this, folks in Kiev are prepping for Sunday’s Pride march, which in Ukraine is definitely a political march and not a happy parade. The LGBT community might be celebrating Ukraine’s recent Eurovision victory, but Neo-Nazis have promised “a bloodbath” at the Pride march. Last year’s parade was interrupted by people shooting “firecrackers packed with nails” into the crowd. None of this has anything at all to do with Ukrainian rock band Bichkraft, beyond that they’re playing a free show this week. They’re good. Recent Russian-language single “Sleeves At Farewell” has Sonic Youth undertones, a slightly more melodic variation on their last album’s mathy post-rock. They play with Bambara (NYC), Cottaging (PVD) and Pyramid (PVD).
