We’re coming up on the four hundredth anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, so for one night only the Showcase in Warwick is screening Bill, a British historical farce that probably wouldn’t otherwise have made it to the United States. The loony and mostly made up story follows an unemployed lute player named Bill Shakespeare who gets wrapped up in a plot to save Queen Elizabeth from the murderous king of Spain. British critics liked the movie, a PG-style comedy that’s so indebted to Monty Python that there’s actually a “bring out your dead” joke at one point.
