There’s a delightful string of drag videos screening in the RISD Museum this winter. The self-proclaimed “incomplete history” stretches about a half century, from a 1964 Andy Warhol film to very recent pieces by Victoria Sin and the impossibly glamorous Sasha Velour, who tackles Kurt Weill’s song Pirate Jenny. About half of the 45 minute program belongs to Psykho III The Musical, a really brilliant 1985 piece in which nightlife fixtures John Kelly and Stephen Tashjian (aka Tabboo!) perform a campy but surprisingly faithful retelling of Hitchcock’s Oedipal thriller. I think I liked it better than the original.
