Burna Boy is an interesting case in global fusion. He doesn’t hop between rap and reggae and Afro-Fusion; he seamlessly throws them all into the same song, often without raising his voice above a quiet Autotuned mumble. The self-declared African Giant focused his energies on the UK for the past few years – British pop singers Lily Allen and Mabel have featured on his tracks – but now he’s embarked on his first US tour. Bouncy city anthem PH City Vibration, dedicated to his Nigerian hometown of Port Harcourt, reflects the livelier side of his personality, though I’m most partial to the mellow and sultry tracks like Gbona.
