George Roy Hill’s lively 1969 western is a real crowd-pleaser, combining the plot of an old Hollywood action picture with all the gloomy despair that filmgoers craved in the late sixties. Two rakish bank robbers (Robert Redford and Paul Newman) find their jobs in jeopardy, so they flee to Bolivia and end up in an unusual love triangle. There’s also that famous scene where Newman and Ross ride around on a bicycle to the strains of “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head.” The supporting cast includes Cloris Leachman and Lurch from The Addams Family.
