I’m still kicking myself for missing the Broadway revival of Cabaret, along with its Campari-sponsored afterparties hosted by Alan Cumming. But the national touring production kicks off this week in Providence (minus the afterparties, as far as I know.) Wonderfully rich and creepy, the musical follows a bisexual American writer in Weimar Berlin and his relationship with a so-so English nightclub performer named Sally Bowles. Between bawdy numbers, the pair watch the city succumb to fascism. For this production, Justin from Queer as Folk reigns over the seedy Kit Kat Club as its enigmatic emcee.
