Gay art is sort of my wheelhouse – when I’m not writing newsletters I’m editing a queer art magazine – but unfortunately there’s rarely any crossover between the two. This summer’s exception is Boston artist Caleb Cole’s new exhibit at the Newport Art Museum, one of six solo shows the museum has ambitiously mounted for the summer. (If the rain ever stops I’ll head down this weekend to see Henry Horenstein’s great country music photos, which open on Thursday.) To Be Seen, Cole’s newest body of work, explores male femininity, while works from two older series incorporate imagery from vintage gay magazines.
