1960s fashion newport rhode island

The Newport Restoration Foundation marks its 50th anniversary with a lecture series about the years of its founding. Madelyn Shaw, Curator of Textiles at the National Museum of American History, presents a talk entitled Camelot vs. the Counterculture: Fashion and Society in the 1960s. It was a historically tumultuous era: the Kennedy assassinations, Vietnam, and the invasion of psychedelic drugs all wreaked havoc on societal norms – still reeling from the far-right cultural swing of the 1950s – and fashion was no exception, both in the streets and on the runways of Paris.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
