I wasn’t familiar with lo-fi garage band Canadian Waves, so I Googled “Canadian waves” and then fell into an internet k-hole reading about the Lost Villages that were submerged during the 1950s construction of the St. Lawrence seaway. (Spoiler alert: it’s not even a super interesting story.) The band come from Ohio, not Canada, and their ramshackle songs go on for quite some time – half the songs on their Three Waves album exceed the five-minute mark, which probably works better in a live setting than it does on the album. They’re playing with Providence quartet Teddy Farkas, eerie local banjoist Kate Mick, and someone(s?) called J.
