Since its 2003 debut at The Vets, Festival Ballet has returned every few years to Viktor Plotnikov’s Carmen, most recently as part of the Up Close on Hope series during its 2016–17 season. Unlike a big theater like The Vets, the 95-seat black box allows the audience to sit just a few feet away from dancers; there are only four rows of seats, allowing even people in the back to pay close attention to every movement. Based on Bizet’s 1875 opera, Carmen is a passionate story of betrayal. Jennifer Ricci and Eugenia Zinovieva share the title role.
