Welsh singer-songwriter Cate Le Bon packed up and moved to Los Angeles before recording Crab Day, her fourth solo album. Lead single “Something” takes Le Bon’s perpetually off-kilter guitar noodling into Incredible String Band territory, but as a whole the album’s psychedelic art-pop stays grounded, Le Bon’s voice alternating suddenly studied detachment and genuine fandom for the heyday of fellow countrymen Super Furry Animals and Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci. “Find Me” sounds superficially like Nico, at least for a while, while the brief “I Was Born On The Wrong Day” manages to squeeze in a saxophone bit. Highly recommended. Seattle’s Mega Bog opens.
