Yellow Peril’s got a fun show up now, a queer group exhibit that leans heavily on abstraction. Highlights include Kris Grey’s four-legged sculpture that looks sort of like a Tim Burton creature with a butt; Juan Manuel Gudiño’s trio of abstract black-and-white paintings; and a wall-sized painting (another black and white abstraction) by Ernesto Renda, who’s about the graduate from Brown/RISD’s dual-degree program. I’ve seen the show three times now and have twice arrived at exactly the moment when artist Peter Clough, locked in a cage, loudly slurps his own urine in a lengthy video piece that I haven’t quite wrapped my head around yet.
The gallery’s open 12pm-5pm and at 7:30pm there’s a screening of Rosa von Praunheim’s 1979 documentary Army of Lovers.
