Local poet/writer/performer Christopher Johnson says he was inspired by Roger Williams, Bill T. Jones and Everett Stage and School while developing New and Dangerous Ideas, a multimedia work that he’s creating as part of AS220’s Community Live Arts Residency. The piece incorporates spoken word poetry along with music, dance and video to tell personal stories about police officers, racial profiling, and mass incarceration. An internationally recognized poetry slam champion, Johnson has explored this subject matter before, with Everett’s well-received Freedom Project, but this free reading will be a first look into where the prolific poet is headed next.
