In principle I don’t want to like bands who use wacky spellings to improve their SEO rankings, but I fell hard for the first album by Scottish electropop trio Chvrches. “The Mother We Share” is a perfect pop song with unusual subject matter: adult siblings who don’t actually like one another. Singer Lauren Mayberry owns her girlish Scottish voice ā when she says “proud” it rhymes with code, and there’s a glottal stop in the chorus of the great “Lies.” The group’s second album wasn’t as immediately memorable as the first, but the trio soldiers on with a WBRU-sponsored show at Lupo’s.
