Dr. Joseph Chazan is likely the most visible art collector in Providence – and not just because he rescued the gallery at the Wheeler School a few years back. The RISD Museum published a catalog of Chazan’s museum gifts way back in 2004 – an updated catalog will be out any time now – and for the past decade the doctor has commissioned the Networks series of video portraits featuring Rhode Island artists. (The latest round premiered in Newport earlier this month.) RISD Museum curator Jan Howard will discuss Chazan’s gifts to the museum and moderate a discussion between the doctor and Networks artists Nicole Chesney, Timothy Philbrick, and Andrew Raftery. Athenaeum salons generally begin at 5:30, with snacks and sherry on the front end.
