Rhode Island College always stages its biggest gallery shows in October, to coincide with homecoming weekend; this year it’s a group show with a wildly heady description, though in reality the gallery space is dominated by Stine Deja’s video of a robot singing Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is” into a mirror, the sound and the video oddly distant from one another. It takes about twenty minutes to watch the show’s four video pieces, longer if you want to play a computer game in the corner called Slime Engine. Curated by Jenny CHEN Jiaying and Frank WANG Yefeng, the show somehow feels simultaneously gaudy and understated. If straight-up minimalism is more your style, pop by the Chazan Gallery in the Alex + Ani Hall next door. Wood pieces from Joel Dunn and Argentine artist Analía Saban are worth checking out.
