Sometimes movies by local directors premiere locally, and sometimes we end up getting them seven weeks after everybody else. It’s… strange. Set over the course of a single day, Donald Cried follows two exemplars of toxic masculinity: Peter escaped his dreary Warwick upbringing to make money in finance; Donald never left and works in an arcade. Now Peter’s back to deal with his grandmother’s death, and Donald couldn’t be happier. Played by director Kris Avedisian – no relation to the mayor – Donald is a sad, creepy man-child with a serial killer haircut. Peter isn’t much better, though. (What kind of fancy banker would lose his wallet, anyway?) Despite fairly repulsive characters, this one scored mostly positive reviews when it ran everywhere else last month.
