Brown University’s Electroacoustic Improvisation Ensemble wraps up their semester with a public performance at the Music Mansion. Amber Vistein’s class is structured around the idea that microphones are instruments in and of themselves, and the class has “collaboratively crafted a unique performance language that blends tradition and newness in improvised sound.” (I’m quoting from the blurb on the Music Mansion site.) At the concert, they will engage “in questions of sound and sociality, listening and memory, and the particular urgency of improvised performance.” This seems a little edgy for the Music Mansion, actually. Expect a lot of buzzing and beeping.
