Clad in a knee-length leather jacket, Elvis Costello played the old Lupo’s about fifteen years ago, playing two back-to-back shows on a sweltering summer evening. It was pretty epic; the second show ran over two and a half hours. Costello’s 1982 album Imperial Bedroom is neither his best nor his most popular, so it seems like an odd choice to center a tour around all these years later. The singles were “You Little Fool” and “Man Out of Time,” though you’re probably most likely to remember “Beyond Belief” or the great ballad “Almost Blue.” (Oddly, the most effective version of that song is by Jennifer Jason Leigh.) Costello’s always experimented live, arranging songs in various genres, so don’t expect him to just play the album.
