Fabric Arts Festival is a new art festival taking over Fall River for four days. Highlighting contemporary artists, many from Portugal and the Azores, the festival hopes to shed the old-fashioned imagery (roosters, etc.) that people associate with Portuguese visual culture. Highlights will include performances by cellist Kelsey Lu and fado singer Lula Pena,* a Red Bull documentary about Azorean hip-hop, three new murals, open studios, a carousel intervention that is “partially disorienting and ultimately crepuscular,” and evening sets from Mal Devisa and Downtown Boys. Visit fabricfallriver.com for locations and showtimes.
*The Kelsey Lu and Lula Pena performances are ticketed; everything else is free.
