Newport’s Redwood Library charges an admission fee for tourists, but did you know that you can get in for free if you have a library card from any Rhode Island public library? It’s worth a peek one day. Thankfully for me, the Redwood also does a lot of its cultural programming in the summer, when most people in Providence aren’t thinking about American history or literature or, in this case, art history. Fiona Donovan is the author of Jasper Johns: Pictures within Pictures, 1980-2015, an examination of the second half of the 88-year old artist’s career. The discussion will be moderated by Dodie Kazanjian, who seems to moderate most events that happen in Newport these days. Seating is limited and there is a small fee for programs (yes, even for locals).
