Press night isn’t until Monday for The Wilbury Group’s latest rock (or I guess folk) musical, but I wanted to get this one in before I wrapped up with regular updates for the year. It sounds like a very Wilbury show, with a big cast and a lot of the actors playing their own musical instruments. Set during the Civil War, César Alvarez’s Futurity is about a Union soldier with dreams of a brighter future, and his transcontinental correspondence with English mathematician Ada Lovelace. She’s based on a real person, now widely recognized as the first computer programmer, though interestingly the real Lovelace died almost a decade before the Civil War began.
