The rise of Swedish climate superhero Greta Thunberg* is such a great thing for many reasons, but especially because movements need faces and some of us grew up in that dark era when environmental activism was represented by a blue cartoon with terrible hair. Hear Our Voces: The Musical! Is a Thunberg-inspired play written by fifth graders during a six-week afterschool playwriting course. In Manton Avenue Project style, the play will be performed by professional adult actors. Running for one weekend only, the show is directed by Tatyana-Marie Carlo and will surely be very, very different than her last show. Also, for the first time ever, the show will be presented with complete subtitles in Spanish.
*Side note: I just wanted to draw your attention to the fact that in 2009 Greta’s mother, mezzo soprano Malena Ernman, was responsible for one of Sweden’s most epically ridiculous Eurovision entries.
