Set at the tail end of the Vaudeville era, Gypsy is a 1959 musical about a conniving stage mother trying to make it with her girls on the Depression-era tour circuit. Wakefield’s Contemporary Theater Company is running the beloved musical with a cast of two dozen led by Eden Casteel as the selfish stage mother. Reviews are mixed. Broadway World thinks the show is too big for the space it’s in, but the South County Independent calls the production “vibrant and ambitious.”
