Chipper twelve-year old Wanda June (Emeline Easton) appears out of nowhere, chomping cotton candy and telling the audience how great things are now that she’s dead, having been prematurely dispatched by a drunk ice cream truck driver. It’s not the most uncomfortable scene in Kurt Vonnegut’s lively black comedy Happy Birthday, Wanda June, but it’s probably the most memorable. Meanwhile, in an unnamed city, a crazed alpha male war hero (Andrew Stigler) and his dopey sidekick return from the jungle, much to the surprise of the wife who thought he had died eight years previously. This one’s definitely worth seeing.
