June is traditionally the month for Pride exhibits of affirmative work by LGBTQ artists. Hera Gallery’s Spectrum doesn’t promote itself that way – this is actually the last week for the show – but this group exhibit makes a pretty solid (and dare I say affirming?) case for the state of queer contemporary art. There’s a playful element to a lot of the work, from Susan Bauer’s mink coat drawings (complete with gold necklaces) to a video piece in which artist Kara Dunne hurriedly descends a seemingly endless series of staircases.
