About six months after opening, Providence indie bookstore Riffraff has slowly started unrolling a series of readings, book clubs, and other events. This week author Hilary Plum (Strawberry Fields) reads and talks books with fellow novelist Andrea Lawlor (Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl). Lawlor’s speculative novel, which I’ve been meaning to pick up for a while now, is about a shapeshifting gay bartender living in the early nineties. Plum’s, an experimental novel about journalists in war-torn regions, sounds darker and more complicated.
