third world reggae 1975

1968 was a tumultuous year in history, with protests happening worldwide, from the streets of Paris to the classrooms of Providence. A student walkout at Brown led to the formation the following year of the Rites and Reason Theatre and eventually the school’s Africana Studies department. Fifty years later, the department is marking the event with a four-day look at the music of 1968. First up is Ibo Cooper, a Grammy nominated keyboardist, producer, composer, and founder of reggae collective Third World, to discuss the history and politics of the genre.
