The seventeen day Newport Music Festival kicks off this week, and one of the early highlights is a performance by Ukrainian-born pianist and spoken word performer Inna Faliks. The genre-bending artist is debuting “Polonaise-fantaisie: The Story of a Pianist” at Chateau-sur-Mer; named after Chopin’s 1846 piano piece, it’s an autobiographical monologue chronicling her own life and immigration to the United States, interspersed with pieces by Bach, Liszt, Gershwin, and others. (Chopin, of course.) Faliks has quite a busy resume: among many other things, she currently curates a music/poetry series in New York while also chairing the piano department at UCLA.
Tickets are $30 but a $46 ticket will get you lunch at the mansion beforehand.
