The state-sponsored Native American Art Exhibit is up now in Apponaug (which means “place of oysters” in Narragansett, if you didn’t know.) Featuring a dozen artists, the show was previously exhibited in the Atrium Gallery at One Capitol Hill, part of RISCA’s regular diversity-focused gallery programming. “Both traditional and contemporary Native creativity share the common thread of a dynamic cultural survival,” says curator Angel Beth Smith. “Together they enhance and bring to light the original perspectives of Native American tradition and the contemporary Native American issues of the present.” There’s a public reception at the museum from 6-8PM.
