Patricia Rozema’s Into The Forest kicks off with the very slow strains of Cat Power covering Nina Simone’s “Wild Is The Wind,” and the pace never really picks up from there. Which is fine for a drama about sisters, but rather unusual for an apocalyptic sci-fi story. Ellen Page and Evan Rachel Wood star as sisters left to fend for themselves in the Pacific Northwest after a power plant blows and the whole electrical grid collapses. The pair retreat further and further inward, only leaving their secluded house to chop firewood and forage for berries. If you aren’t horrified by the idea of a feminist sci-fi film devoid of special effects, get out and see this one now. It won’t be around long.
