I was never a huge fan of nineties indie rock heroes Dinosaur Jr – they’re fine – so I can’t say that founder/frontman J. Mascis has really been on my radar since my long-ago college radio years. Just last month Mascis released his third solo album, Elastic Days, and it’s a solid and very mellow collection of melodic folk-rock. He’s joined at the Met by Luluc, a Brooklyn-based Australian duo who make dreamy, delicate (and yes, slow) ballads. They actually might be the more intriguing half of the bill, although you may wish you had a sleeping bag.
