This winter’s release of Joan Juliet Buck’s memoir might best be described using the headlines it produced: “I Was the Queen of French Fashion. Then Came the Guillotine”(New York); “Joan Juliet Buck’s Library is full of CIA Secrets” (W); “Shunned By Vogue, Joan Juliet Buck Seeks Inner Peace” (NY Times). (You get the idea.) The only American to run French Vogue, Buck’s life was all glitz and glamour until she was dropped by Conde Nast in 2001. Buck discusses her book, The Price of Illusion at an event that’s free for Redwood Library members and $10 for everyone else. Seating is limited, they say.
