As a small child in the mid-1980s, my parents were early adopters of the new CD format. Unfortunately, CDs were expensive and so we only had a couple of them, which my dad played to death for many, many, many years. I can not even imagine how many times (Hundreds? Thousands? Hundreds of thousands?) I have heard the soundtrack to Eddie and the Cruisers, the 1983 film about a Jersey bar band whose frontman vanishes in the early sixties. The music came via Providence’s John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, who went triple platinum and scored a #1 rock hit (“On The Dark Side”) despite the fact that the movie tanked.* Still at it, the band are playing this week’s installment of the Windjammer’s Monday Tunes on the Dunes series. (If it rains, which it’s supposed to, the concert will happen inside the bar.)
*It’s apparently a cult favorite now?
