“We know there are new Guernicas today,” sculptor Juan Ormaza says ominously in the statement for his new solo exhibit. Begun in 2002, the “Chronicles” series is inspired by people living in contemporary war zones, and the exhibit appropriately features a number of limbless people. Not all of it works: the grotesque man sitting atop a ladder supported by the weight of a legless child is… a little much, let’s say. Across the room, a blindfolded bust faces an ominous veiled figure amid some carpets, while elsewhere a man perches on the backs of two copulating pigs.
