A swastika-emblazoned spacecraft hovers menacingly over a colony of penguins on the cover of Deception Island, the high-tech archaeological thriller from local author Judith A. Boss. The plot synopsis is a doozy – an evolutionary anthropologist travels from Afghanistan to Antarctica with a mysterious pendant and a colleague’s handsome polar geophysicist nephew in tow. Once they make it down there, they encounter a group of bioterrorists and a secret Nazi lair. Boss, an ethicist and former URI professor, has long been fascinated by Antarctica, and she’s currently planning the book’s sequel.
